Kiss of Death

Ears echoed with sandy winds
As loneliness grew on him
Like a slow, persistant parasite
Sucking out the will to live

Face-down on the desert floor
He’s surrendered to the scorch
Feeling no heat anymore
Wanting to fight fate no more

Heaven knows how many a day
The young man there lay motionless
Thrown between the freezing night
And the killing scorching day

And then one day at the stroke of dawn
The strewn man opened his sandy eyes
To a strange beautiful distant sound
That lit up his heart like a soldier home bound

His knuckles cracked and the muscles pulled
As he supremed the life to crawl on forth
In search of the intriguing twinkle
That lay hidden in that distant sound

As he peaked the next sand hill
The rising sun blacked his eye
But then he saw the bride in White
Singing the melody as she turned to him

She bent on him
Shading his face
As he glimpsed into
Her smiling eyes;

Trickles of sun soaked his soul
Through her peaceful veil
As she blessed on him
The Kiss of Death

Fear of Death flew away
As the young man’s spirit rose above
Leaving behind the hapless body
In the pained world of living stones
